There's a million different products you can use to add glitter to your projects. Each glitter has it's own special uses and ability to wear. I love adding touches of glitter, especially to my mixed media projects, but sometimes one glitter won't work on all materials. So I use glitter nail polish. I don't recommend using nail polish on your wearable art or items that will be in contact with food. However, paper crafts, home decor and even outdoor accents are good candidates to add glitter using nail polish.
Make sure before you cover a whole project with nail polish, you test a small area first. This will help determine how well the nail polish will stick and if the material can handle the polish. This heart was fist colored with a pink marker and then coated with Pure Ice brand silver nail polish.
What I love most about using polish is that once you've painted the polish on, you are also adding shine to the project… glitter and sealer in one coat. You can find great glitter polished as all different price ranges too… even check what your local dollar store carries, I've found some great glitter polishes for just $1!
Project Idea: make fashion accessories such as hair clips, pennants or a cute bow using the same glitter nail polish that you plan to use on your nails and you'll create a fun ensemble for one little shiny price!
What a great tip! I’m going to have to find a project to try this out on, thanks!
I’d love to hear what you decide to make!
