Pretty Pillow Decor Crafts

Written by: | Published: March 04, 2015 | Updated: March 05, 2015

Have you ever made a pillow? Pillows tend to be one of my go to craft projects because they can be so easy to make and so versatile to use. You can decorate a pillow, update pillows you already have or make a pillow from scratch. You can stuff them with polyfil or buy pillow forms and sew pillow cases to cover. You can even upcycle pillows you find at second hand stores and decorate, dye or even paint on them. There are so many fun things to do with pillows AND they are an awesome beginner craft too.

Pretty Pillow Decor Crafts

Here are some pillow craft project ideas for you to check out. I already said pillows are a go-to craft for me, right? I don’t have any pillow craft tutorials here on my site to share. I’ve made pillows for friends as gifts. I’ve designed the art to feature on pillows. I’ve even created pillows for companies… but yet nothing here on my own site to show for it. Think maybe I should update that soon. Maybe we can work on this challenge together, you pick a pillow and get crafting – I’ll start sharing more pillow creativity. Deal? Good! Go!

Make Activity Pillows for your kids

I love this DIY buckle pillow for so many reasons! This might give more of a sense of my age than it should.. but when I was a kid I LOVED the little activity dolls. You know the dollos with all the zippers and buttons and snaps and ties? These buckle pillows serve the same purpose, they make a fantastic activity for kids and help develop find motor skills. The best part is that you can make these pillows all yourself! Tutorial available at Twin Talk.

No Sew Pillow Decor

If you don’t want to make an entire pillow, or don’t want to sew, you can make a pillow wrap. This pretty art design was created on a strip of fabric using a stencil I hand cut and then I used fabric paint to create the entire design. Check out the DecoArt blog for the full tutorial.

More Pillow Craft project ideas

  • Use old t-shirts to create fun graphic-t style pillows
  • Use ribbon and iron-on hem-tape to add a ribbon accent to pillows you already own.
  • You can use fabric glue and fabric glitter or a glitter vinyl to add some sparkle to pillows you create.
  • Make a tiny pillow and add a pocket for the toothfairy.

Some of the pillows I’ve created…

Use a stencil and fabric paint to create pretty pillows with custom art. I created both of these following pillows using metallic paints from DecoArt.
