Monster Jam FTW! 5 reasons I love this event
For a couple years now we've been going to the Monster Jam truck show here in Denver. I missed going earlier this year because the guys in the neighborhood wanted a boys only day – darnit. But this weekend, the Goodes are heading for the rumble at the Pepsi Center. It's nearly a Valentine's weekend tradition for us and we love it! I say “we” loosely… my oldest doesn't like the loud – so we'll bring him and his ipod and his mega headphones and he can sit and watch and pretend he's not interested, really I think he likes it but doesn't want to admit it in front of his non-truck loving friends.
Now ya gotta realize this is not a girly event by any means. It's loud, full of dirt and the whole focus is big trucks smashing and rumbling and crashing and roaring through the event center. It's all boy, even with the pink truck. But it's so cool to see.
Cooking a week at a time, or two
I cook in phases. Sometimes I love cooking every day and sometimes I wish the pizza guy and Chinese delivery man would just park outside the whole week. I struggle with finding the time to make good meals, especially at times like now when I'm more worried about getting ready for a show, than making sure my kids aren't eating McDonalds again.
A couple months ago I was watching the Food Network (yes, that is my “while I work” entertainment). Rachel Ray came on with a show I hadn't seen before about making 5 meals in a day. I only half paid attention – I have no idea what she made, but the concept stuck. I make chili in the crock pot all day and have two crock pots… why not make two batches at once? I tried it and it worked so well that I expanded the experiment into making other things at once. Now I spend an entire day (or at least 4 hours) making food that I can use later … but much quicker.
Struggling with integrity
I recently had to deal with an issue that I found myself questioning whether I should stand up for myself or not. I brought up a situation I was unhappy with and instead of a line of communication resulting in better understanding, I felt like I needed to defend myself, prove myself, share the laundry list of items that were viewed incorrectly…. because my unhappiness was uncalled for and inaccurate.
Since when can another person tell us our perception of feelings are wrong? We might be incorrect in our assumptions or facts – stand up and claim responsibility for those errors. But we shouldn't let someone else make us question what we know is right or wrong. No matter how much we want to make others happy, our own happiness comes first. How we handle what we do with our perspective is the key. How we treat others in the process is the important factor.
Organizing followers on Pinterest
I was just thinking, as I follow more people on Pinterest, I'm sure I'm missing more and more content shared that I would love to see. It might seem like visual overload, but I just keep seeing so many neat things, I want to see more. However, the more people I follow, the more they pin, the more I am missing.
