School is out for the holiday weekend and the kids were looking for something fun to do. So when my friend Laura Kelly asked if I wanted to share a creative clay idea using Sculpey brand clay, I said Sure! Then I passed the activity on to the kids. That's what you would do, right?
I dug out the box-I-clay and all the tools and let the kids go crazy. Then a few of the neighbor kids showed up and soon the kitchen was a clay playground. This Sculpey clay is really easy to use. It's a little stiff when the package is first opened, but a little knee ding and the warmth of your hands and it's very easy to work into a variety of shapes. We had no plan, the kids just played, mixed colors and watched the magic of the pasta machine in action.
You don't need a ton of fancy tools or supplies to make things with clay. Use things you already have around the house such as glasses or bottles as a rolling pin. Or a fork to make neat patterns in the clay. We have a little clay tool kit the kids use to cut and mark on their clay. This clay can be worked like regular modeling clay and then you bake it to harden it. The kids had SO MUCH FUN!
I also started making some cute little clay gift tags, here's a sneak peek… I'll show you how to make them later.
