I don't remember what the tooth fairy did when she visited my house when I was a kid. I know she left money and I know I had a huge pile of teeth pulled. I think maybe the dentist had a deal with the tooth fairy; between them, someone was making bank… I'm positive my teeth were worth millions.
Now when the tooth fairy visits our house, she leaves gold $1 coins and a note. My oldest son didn't get the gold coins, I think back then Pokemon cards were a more valued treasure… he seemed to get a lot of them.
I've seen a lot of neat stories shared on Pinterest about the tooth fairy. Some people have tiny doors on the wall from the night stand so the tooth fairy can easily come inside. Other people have cute tooth pillows, pouches or pockets. We've never really tried any of these ideas, although I do love them. My favorite tradition is the note. The tooth fairy always leaves a little note thanking my kids for their tooth. That cute tooth doodle.. that's her signature mark so you know the note is real. Plus she uses the same note cards, I'm not sure where she gets them, but I love the paper she uses.
The first time we saw these tooth fairy notes appear is when my oldest son was about 8 I think. He had left a tooth that had a cavity and I think the dentist pulled that one too. That funny tooth fairy left a note that night and a treat but left the tooth behind. The note basically said…
Thank you so much for this tooth,
but I can't use it with a cavity.
So, you keep your tooth
as a reminder to brush your teeth.
She's been leaving notes for the kids ever since! I don't know how she keeps up with all those teeth, but the kids sure do love it!
The note in the photo above… more teeth pulled by the dentist, two at a time. There's a way to earn ice cream truck money, don't you think?
What does the tooth fairy do at your house?
