Written by: | Published: March 08, 2013 | Updated: October 20, 2017

Did you ever consider using buttons for fancy decor, cards and crafts? There are super pretty, sparkly buttons available that you can use to accent a variety of items you might be making for your wedding or bridal shower. From pearly beaded buttons to pretty glitter hearts, there are many choices, I'm sure you'll find yourself struggling to choose!

To give you some ideas of things you can create for fabulous wedding items using buttons, I'm participating in a blog hop today along with other design team members for Buttons Galore and more and the Designer Craft Connection group. You'll see lots of great ideas from other creative minds AND, if you leave a comment on the BGM blog hop post, you could win a fun button prize – bonus!

The theme this time around is a combination of techniques and weddings. I wasn't sure which I wanted to focus on, so I'm sharing a little of both. I decided to make a wedding card to show off a simple, elegant idea you can try. I love being able to incorporate buttons into a project with the same ease as a sticker or stamp. Just glue and go. You can easily add a little extra bling to any project just by adding some buttons for dimension. For an extra finished look, tie some twine through the button holes before gluing in place so the button looks like you've stitched it on to your project.

This project has a great handmade appeal but you don't even need to draw if you don't want to. The art is actually a print out of my own line drawing (also known as a “digital stamp”). You can grab yourself a copy of my wedding digital stamps, print them out and use the dress for your own pretty wedding button card – bonus again!

Materials you need:

  • Pretty wedding themed buttons from Buttons Galore and More
  • Wedding Dress digital stamp set by Jen Goode
  • Snickerdoodle Smooch from Clearsnap
  • Cardstock
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors

Make your own wedding card with button accents:

  1. Cut the various paper pieces and adhere as desired.
  2. Print and cut out wedding dress digital stamp. Add accents and use decorative paper punches to create a pretty edge.
  3. Glue buttons in place.

That's it. You can do more and make a more elaborate card or keep it simple and bask in your own creative glory. If you really are feeling a little more into embellishing, consider adding embossing powders. To get that neat white textured accent throughout the wedding dress, I simply applied Clearsnap's Glue Gloss, sprinkled on some pearl embossing powder, add some heat with a heat gun and there ya go.

Tip: cut the back of your buttons off if you want to be able to glue them to a flat surface.

Another item you can easily make for your wedding decor using buttons are wine charms. Just string beads onto an elastic thread, include a few wedding buttons and tie off. The elastic thread will act like a rubber band you can easily pull over the base of your wine glasses and each set of buttons and beads can be different to make unique wine charms.

Your wedding accessories and decor details can absolutely be handmade with little cost and a bit of your creative time. Add some sparkle and unique impact by incorporating pretty wedding buttons… simple and elegant! To continue on the hop (oh yeah, that's what I started talking about)… just scroll on back up to the top of the page and look on the right for that lovely “Designer Craft Connection” logo and click ‘n go. Leave me a comment and say hi before you go.
