We have wild rabbits. We've had rabbits in the neighborhood and more specifically living in our backyard for years. Recently our primary rabbit resident was hurt and is now hobbling around with a bum leg. I was sad for him until I just realized he's been eating my brand new mums. I love fall and fall flowers are some of my favorites.. and now I have nubs instead of pretty mums.
Is there a fix to keep the rabbit from eating my flowers?
Look how tiny this poor little mum is. I did not by the $.25 cent variety, this was a good 10 times bigger when I planted it just a few weeks ago. I love watching the rabbits, but this one is lucky I don't have a hungry dog!
Count them… ever little flower was chewed right off. I hope they were delicious… silly rabbit!
I need to find a solution or it will be pointless to plant anything else. I've heard rabbits don't like Thyme or Geraniums, so I might go grab some and plant more mums around them. Over the years I've also sprinkled a variety of spices on the garden including garlic, paprika and cayenne pepper. A couple years ago, walking up to my front door it smelled like an Italian restaurant. Nothing seems to work really well. However, I have tried a product called “liquid fence”. It works great, but the smell is so awful I swear it was still in my nostrils a month later… I can't use it.
If you have suggestions for keeping the bunnies from eating my blooms, I'd be so grateful!
