Quick Cajun Grilled Shrimp Skewers
The most important part of this shrimp skewer recipe, besides the shrimp, is the cajun seasoning. You can mix up your own, I use a pre-made mix. See below for details on Cajun Seasoning.
Ingredients
- Shrimp – I used frozen, large tail on shrimp
- Sweet red peppers – bell peppers would be yummy too
- Cajun spices/seasoning
- Skewers
Instructions
- Partially thaw the shrimp. They are easier to put on the skewer if they are a little frozen so they aren't as soft.
- Cut and peppers into bite sized slices. Make sure to cut out all the seeds.
- Rotate adding shrimp and pepper to the skewer. I added 3 shrimp and 3 peppers to each skewer.
- Place on a hot grill. I used a grill pan on the stove. You can use your BBQ if you prefer, just make sure to set up whatever tools you need so the shrimp don't stick to your grill rack.
- Sprinkle seasoning over each full skewer.
- Cook for about a minute on one side and then turn over. Add more seasoning when you flip the skewer. Cook thoroughly. You want the shrimp to be pink to know they are fully cooked.
If you get a standard bag of large, tail on shrimp, you should be able to make about 10 skewers or so. Small sweet peppers, cut into 6-10 bite-sized pieces.
That's it! Try not to eat them all before it's time to share.
Cajun Seasoning Ideas
I don't know how to make my own cajun seasoning yet. So, for this recipe, I used a yummy seasoning I received from the guys at a local Cajun restaurant, The Lost Cajun. I think for now you have to buy it in person. So, if you don't live in Colorado here are some other cajun seasoning options to look for:
- Zatarains – Don't get the crawfish/shrimp boil sauce, get the dry seasoning.
- Tony Chachere Creole seasoning
Happy grilling!
