So to those of you that don't craft because you don't like the mess, I won't be able to convert you to come to the dark side of creativity. Creative thinking and really allowing yourself to jump in and make something happen can result in messiness. That's my only disclaimer – I should put that out there somewhere next to my privacy policy or something more obvious than this one post that will be buried in a bit.
Creating things can be messy. So what!? Building a house is not a clean job. Surgery isn't a clean process. I'm not talking unsanitary – no, creativity does not result in mold and filth… although I'm sure it could. Creativity, however does require a little ability to abandon the need to constantly pick up. Just let the stuff sit a minute while you create your masterpiece and THEN go back and clean. That's the tricky part – if you're like me, constantly starting new things, leaving piles of projects unfinished, there is no cleaning. That's bad, don't do that.
This is what happens…
Don't you go shaking your head now – my studio is much worse! But there's great things being created in this here chaos. And if you look really hard you can probably count how many projects I'm capable of working on at the same time. Some of that is preschool project fun, some is left over from recently finished work and some is breakfast. It's all co-mingling to, hopefully, inspire something new and wonderful by lunch. The creative piles will eventually overflow to the table just yonder… then I'll finish some things and it will all get cleaned up, or at least moved to the studio. Organizing is a constant work in progress still… I'm getting there.
I think it's ok to let it go, as long as you have the goal of cleaning it up so your family doesn't need to work around your creativity. That's just not fair – forcing the family to live around your brilliant, creative mind, exploding on the counter. So don't do it. But do allow yourself to just let loose and have fun once in a while. Let whatever creation happen as it may. Then jump on back here and tell me about it… share the inspiration!

The next article should be about making sure client work is fabulous and outstanding. Because it can be, despite the work space at first glance. ~wink.
